Professionals Skills and Capacity Building Programmes:

Training courses, Seminars, Workshops, Practical Orientation Courses, and Lectures etc are being organized for sufficient workforce of competent professionals by the association time to time.

LPA has organized its first National Conference on “Knowledge Organization in Academic Libraries” (KOAL 2012) at Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi. This was a grand success for LPA. It was attended by more then 200 participants from all over the country. The conference was inaugurated by Hon'ble former Chief Election Commissioner of India Dr S.Y. Quraishi. Two awards were presented in the conference. Best paper award was awarded to Dr. P.K. Srivastava, Divisional Librarian, Kota and the best paper presenter award was given to Ms Shalini Wason, Chandigarh.

KOAL 2013: The second National Conference on “Knowledge Organization in Academic Libraries” (KOAL 2013) was organized in the Indian Social Institute, New Delhi on 27th April 2013. This was attended by more than 180 participants from each part of the country. This was also another grand success for LPA. It was inaugurated by First IPS lady of India Dr Mrs. Kiran Bedi.

To promote and support to the LIS Professionals LPA has announced nine awards in this conference:

Four awards for each category of the librarian namely- school librarian, college librarian, corporate librarian and Public library librarian.

Fifth award for best paper sixth award was for best paper presenter. Seventh and eight award was given to the two participants as a travel grant which included to and fro fare of train or bus.

The ninth award which was constituted by Compact Society for Social welfare in the memory of Late Sh Sukhdev Singh father of Sh Salek Chand, Secretary LPA. It was given to the differently abled LIS Professional of India. It was consisted Rs. 2000/- in cash, Memento, Citation and Shawl LPA also started a lecture series and in this series, the First Annual Lecture was organized on 7th February, 2013 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi during Book Fair. The Speaker was Dr. Usha Munshi, chief librarian Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi.

Two more National Conferences namely National Conference On emerging Trends in Libraries and information services held on 22-23 February 2014 at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and National Conference on “Challenges and Opportunity of Libraries and Librarians in Knowledge Era” held in Lucknow on 12th April 2014 in collaboration with LPA KOAL 2014 was organized as a National Conference on “Role of ICT in Library Management” on 26th April 2014 in collaboration with Lyllpur Khalsa College of Engineering (LKCE) at LKCE, Jalandhar. During this conference, about 200 participants from each part of the country were joined this Conference.

I-KOAL-2105 was organized as International Conference on “Knowledge Organization in Academic Libraries” under the theme of DIGITAL INDIA: DIGITAL LIBRARIES from January 2-3 at Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The inaugural session started with the welcome address by Dr. Kukum Garg, Dean (Faculty of Engineering) Manipal University. Dr. M. Natarajan, President, LPA apprised the audience, about the historical background, events, services and activities conducted by LPA followed by the brief conference details by Mr. Salek Chand, Conference Convener and Secretary LPA. Dr. Sandeep Sancheti President, MUJ in his presidential address emphasized the importance of libraries as reservoirs of knowledge and how the implementation of digital domain in them can enhance their importance. Dr. Bernd Markscheffel graced the occasion as guest of honor from Germany.

Mr. Kailash Verma MLA, Bagru talked about the education level in the state of Rajasthan and contribution of MUJ in this area. This was followed by the release of conference volume by the Chief Guest Mr. Kalicharan Saraf, the Hon’ble Technical Education Minister and Minister of S&T of the State. The conference volume has 50 screened papers by the editorial committee out of 74 received papers. Sh. Kalicharan Saraf, not only welcomed all the participants and also shared his views about the importance of libraries in knowledge society.

A book titled: “Knowledge Management: Challenges and Applications” authored by Dr. M Natarajan, Ex-Head, Education and Training, Editor- JSIR, NISCAIR New Delhi and President LPA was also released during the session. KOAL 2016. In the series of KOAL, the last Conference was organized from March 9-10, 2016 at P K Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Pallakad, Kerala. It was attended by more than 120 participants from each part of the country. Many awards also awarded to the deserving Library Professionals as Best Librarian Awards etc.

Besides the Proceeding of KOAL-2012, KOAL 2013, KOAL 2014, I-KOAL 2015 and KOAL 2016, LPA has been publishing a Quarterly News Letter containing the activities done by the association and the activities being done in LIS Profession in India. It is also planned to bring out a journal in near future for wide dissemination of information and knowledge in the area of Library and Information Science.

Monitoring: Our special team supervises, monitor, analysis and find out the weaknesses for further improvement in the work on weekly basis. SWOT analyses also prepare and make the necessary changes as per requirement as and when are needed. Monthly report also generated for submission and update to the authority.
